Time Markers
What is a Time Marker? A time marker can mean many things but in the context of change time markers are somewhat indicators of evolution or devolution.
Apart from a myriad of references on the meaning of Time Markers the following cross-reference best fit into the process of change in the context of the individual: Time markers delineate major life events from minor events. There are many aspects to time markers but this meaning aligns with this discussion.
The progression of time indicates movement whether one is aware or not of this invisible movement. How we all experience and perceive time is very different, because we all experience and understand life particular to our individual realities. There are as many realities as there are humans and various living beings on this Earth. All these realities exist moment by moment. A lot of people are not even aware of time as it passes. Age reveals this drama in every existence. It is only with time and through time that we connect with our own unraveling of time. All things exist in Time.
Time Markers are significant moments of conscious revelations of our present existence in reference to our past existence. Major life altering events are usually emotionally charged. Over time emotional memory occurs which has effects. Time shifts occur and depending on a person’s overall constitution and ability to cope with certain experiences and regardless of positive or negative situations a sense of balance may be achievable. At best, being balanced helps but few achieve this. Subconscious tendencies occur constantly. Subconscious tendencies can be both positive and negative. Finding a balanced reality is what all people ultimately strive for with change.
An example of a significant marker is when one directly experiences serious illness or death and loss. Loss is a marker and it can change the entire course or path of one’s life. The experience of great loss and the unknown creates uncertainty. Many experience insecurity, displacement and the questioning of life is all part of grief. Loss and grief itself can alter the course of one’s future. On the flip side, gain and great success can create great change as well. Great gains and miraculous situations also alter the course of lives.
I will continue this discussion in the next post. In the meantime stay tuned for the Notebook Exercise on Time Markers.
